The 2010 Reunion will be at Fort Benning, GA
Squadron to Return to its Roots for Reunion 2010
After a detailed review of several site nominations (which considered costs - hotels, gathering and assembly rooms, dining and transportation, local attractions, links to Squadron history and local BWS support personnel) the BWS Board selected Fort Benning/Columbus, Georgia as the site for Reunion 2010.
Fort Benning is, of course, where our proud unit began – where the 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry was formed and trained under the command of then-Lieutenant Colonel John B. Stockton, whose “Bullwhip 6” call sign gives our Association its name. Fort Benning is also where, after the successful accomplishment of Air Assault testing, the Army’s first Airmobile Division was formed and given the colors of the 1st Cavalry Division, and the 3-17 Cav became the celebrated First of the Ninth.
The Board thanks Jim and Judy Talley from Columbus; Tiny Huber from Louisville, Kentucky; Mike Perry, Phil Zemke and Liz Zemke representing Reno, Nevada; and Joe Bowen for nominating Fort Hood.
We look forward to a big turnout in 2010, and hope the good time we have there (and the lessons the Board learns there) will inspire us to venture even farther from Fort Rucker for Reunion 2012.
